Volunteer Involvement
After my retirement from Corporate life, I joined SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) in 2002 and have been working with small businesses and non-profits as a volunteer business consultant.
In 2009 in partnership with two other SCORE mentors I designed and delivered two separate 2 day long “small business survival workshop” to help train small businesses on a number of business fundamentals to help them navigate the economic downturn. The workshop was extremely successful.
In partnership with another SCORE Mentor I co-facilitated, consulted with and delivered management training to the Northern Nevada Business Forum, a CEO roundtable of small businesses for over 3 years.
In 2010 I joined the board of the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum in Reno and assisted in the executive search for the Executive Director as well as the establishment of the staff hiring processes and other operational systems and processes prior to opening.
In 2010 I was on the team that coordinated the activities leading to the extension of the ¼ cent sales tax in Storey County to fund the building of Tunnel 6, purchase of the freight depot and extension of the V &T into Virginia City.
In 2011 I was on the team that founded and organized Storey County’s first National Night Out (NNO) and formal “We Care” program activities.
Currently a member of the Sheriffs Citizen’s Emergency Response Team (CERT)
Currently Board Chair of the Virginia City Senior Center. Past Board member of Pipers Opera House
I regularly attend and have been very active in Storey County Commission, Virginia City Tourism and Nevada V & T Rail Commission meetings for many years and have been reporting on those activities for Storey County residents at bardeblog.com since 2015.
